Celtic fans were surprised to see Shin Yamada’s name on the teamsheet for the B team’s KDM Trophy fixture against East Kilbride.
While a host of Hoops first-teamers were called up for international duty, Yamada was one of those who is remaining in Glasgow.
Usual B team striker Samuel Isiguzo was called up by Scotland U19s, and the game offered the perfect chance for the Japanese striker to get some minutes under his belt after a difficult start to life at Celtic.
East Kilbride would win the game 2-0, with the forward failing to make an impact, and it has got supporters in total agreement.

Celtic fans sympathise with Shin Yamada
Japanese fans have hit out at the treatment of Yamada and Hayato Inamura after both were deemed to have bags of potential in their homeland.
The 25-year-old couldn’t get himself on the scoresheet and barely had a sniff as East Kilbride won the game.
It is almost sad to see what has happened to the striker since his summer move, and supporters seem to have a degree of sympathy for Yamada.
@stromunde wrote: “Pretty sure this isn’t what Shin Yamada had in mind when he flew half way across the world to sign for us.”
@MarkGilles5627 said: “Shin up front with no support and a referee who is letting the EK centre halves clatter him every time the ball goes near him!”
@keithr58088 commented: “Even at this level, Shin looks poor.”
@Danielh15215783 added: “Absolutely disgraceful what they’ve done to Yamada by the way. Brought a guy on the cusp of the Japanese squad over and this is how you treat the lad. Disgraceful.”
Celtic B qualify for KDM trophy knockout despite defeat
Overall, the KDM trophy campaign has been disappointing but, even with a defeat, the young Hoops were able to advance to the knockout stages.
Results elsewhere meant that they had done just enough to make the cut, but performances like Tuesday night’s defeat won’t do anything to fill fans with confidence about the next generation.
Elsewhere, Jude Bonnar was also part of the XI that played. Bonnar is eligible to feature for the Hoops as part of the ongoing loan agreement with Ayr United, and will return to Scott Brown’s side again.
