Ange Postecoglou has stated that he’s hoping for some big Celtic announcements next week as they look to sharpen up their recruitment.

Celtic have been linked with a host of players over the last few weeks. The likes of Mario Vuskovic, Carl Starfelt, and Aaron Hickey are just three of the players to be heavily speculated with a move to Parkhead.

Celtic’s UEFA Champions League deadline is on July 15th as they look to get players in ahead of our clash with Danish side Midtjylland.

And Postecoglou believes fans will see some big announcements made next week.

As quoted by the Scottish Sun, the boss said: “I’m hoping over the next week or so we have some announcements. We are looking at two or three people at a time.

“Confirm or deny, I would then be putting myself in a position where people think we have just one target for one position. There’s no doubt this squad needs bolstering.

“We have a lack of depth in areas. You look at centre back, wingers and at right back.”

Celtic announcements will kick rebuild into another gear

This is big news for Celtic fans. It’s great to know that the manager and indeed the football club as a whole has an understanding of how quickly we need players in the door.

In recent years we wouldn’t even bother. Celtic would leave key positions without depth and simply shoehorn others into them. Remember, Nir Bitton only became a centre-back because he was being thrown into UCL qualifiers as we had nobody else.

We also had the Kris Ajer at right-back nonsense back in 2019 under Neil Lennon. All of this needs to stop, and it doesn’t look like something that’s going to be an issue this summer.

As for who comes in the door, that’s anyone’s guess. With the names that have been linked with the football club recently, Celtic fans will have a fair idea.

But what’s essential is that certain positions get strengthened. If Celtic can bring in another centre-back and right-back, they can say job done for now. It won’t mark the completion of the rebuild, but it should be enough to see us over the line against Midtjylland.

There are other positions that need sorting too. Right-wing, left-wing, and the centre-forward area in particular is a big source of concern. But our highest priority at the moment? Fixing the backline. Hopefully, that’ll be a key aspect of any big announcements next week.
