Former Celtic defender Carl Starfelt is set to face the mammoth task of Real Madrid on Friday evening.

The Swedish defender’s Celta Vigo side host the might of Los Blancos at their Balaidos home and it should be a good watch.

Starfelt departed Celtic earlier in August, opting to join the Galician club on a four-year deal. We have since signed his compatriot Gustaf Lagerbielke as a replacement while Maik Nawrocki is another centre-back who has joined this summer.

Celtic fans are rightly keen to move on from departed players, but it is also nice to see them doing well. And if you have no real affinity for Starfelt, you could always just tune in to watch Real Madrid.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side have started the La Liga season really impressively. With Jude Bellingham now an integral part of their operation, they’ve started the campaign with away wins over Athletic Club and Almeria.

Tonight’s game is their third straight clash on the road. That’s because they asked the league for only away matches at the start of the season due to renovation work still being done at the Santiago Bernabeu.

They will be big favourites to see off a Celta side who have started the campaign with a home loss to Osasuna and a credible draw away to Champions League side Real Sociedad.

Starfelt played the entirety of the latter clash so we can expect to see him on Friday too. He does, of course, have recent experience of playing Real Madrid, having featured in our 5-1 loss last November.

He will have to keep the likes of Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo quiet in the game which will be shown live on Viaplay Sports 1. Kick-off is at 8:30pm.
