It wouldnโt be hard to have forgotten how good Celtic winger Mikey Johnston actually is.
With all of his false starts and injury woes since breaking through from the Academy, the youngsterโs impact on the ball was oft-forgotten. On his day, as heโs proven, he can be a huge threat.
Sadly, his day hasnโt come very often in recent seasons. Today, though, he came on to excellent effect against Ferencvaros.

So tidy on the ball, and quick with his passing movements, Johnston looked something extremely important: match fit. And while he has a battle on his hands snaffling minutes from the imperious Jota, the impact he could make late on in matches is truly tantalising.
Brought on after 86 minutes, Johnstonโs appearance was more a test of fitness than anything else. Yet, he left supporters delighted with his impact off the bench.
In just a handful of minutes, he got a shot away, had 13 touches of the ball and created a chance for Celtic to add to their lead [Fotmob]. His first touch and proclivity to test defenders reminded fans that weโve got a really solid option in Johnston, when heโs available.
Fingers crossed, then, that heโs able to meaningfully contribute going forward after a nightmare run of injuries.
