Celtic fans discuss Nick Hammond role as exit rumours swirl

Celtic Head of Football Operations Nick Hammond has been the subject of media speculation this week.

A report from website Football Insider has indicated his role at Lennoxtown is under threat.

Hammond arrived at the club in 2019 in the wake of Lee Congerton’s departure.

He was tasked with overseeing an overhaul of our scouting and recruitment processes, before then taking charge full-time.

In the time since we’ve had transfer successes and failures.

Football Insider reckons an audit of this horrendous season could leave Hammond at risk of losing his job.

That would probably be pretty unfair on Celtic’s part.

Hammond’s job seems to essentially be identifying talent before the club then enter financial negotiations.

We’ve heard little from the former Reading man since he joined Celtic.

Nonetheless, he is always going to come under scrutiny given the function of his role and the fact that Celtic fans, like all football fans, are obsessed with transfers.

For me, there are deeper problems at Celtic than Hammond.

The manager and the Chief Executive have the most questions surrounding their future for me, as well as underperforming players, of course.

If the club were trying to be savvy though, making Hammond a scapegoat would possibly be a suitable PR sacrifice.

Fans are clearly interested in Hammond’s future, with many taking to social media over the last few days to discuss his future.

Should he stay, or should he go?…

In other news, Cameron Harper looks to be on his way out of Celtic.
