Celtic Head of Football Operations Nick Hammond has been the subject of media speculation this week.
A report from website Football Insider has indicated his role at Lennoxtown is under threat.
Hammond arrived at the club in 2019 in the wake of Lee Congerton’s departure.
He was tasked with overseeing an overhaul of our scouting and recruitment processes, before then taking charge full-time.
In the time since we’ve had transfer successes and failures.
Football Insider reckons an audit of this horrendous season could leave Hammond at risk of losing his job.
That would probably be pretty unfair on Celtic’s part.
Hammond’s job seems to essentially be identifying talent before the club then enter financial negotiations.
We’ve heard little from the former Reading man since he joined Celtic.
Nonetheless, he is always going to come under scrutiny given the function of his role and the fact that Celtic fans, like all football fans, are obsessed with transfers.
For me, there are deeper problems at Celtic than Hammond.
The manager and the Chief Executive have the most questions surrounding their future for me, as well as underperforming players, of course.
If the club were trying to be savvy though, making Hammond a scapegoat would possibly be a suitable PR sacrifice.
Fans are clearly interested in Hammond’s future, with many taking to social media over the last few days to discuss his future.
Should he stay, or should he go?…
Take Lennon, Kennedy, strachan, lawell with you. https://t.co/NRrAibyoK4

Taking this with a pinch of salt coz I’ve no idea who this account is.
However… this seems like the type of scapegoat move I’d expect from the Club right now. Deflect away from two other, much bigger problems inside the Club. https://t.co/RsoLhsQ9rF

If this is true he should change his name to Scapegoat Hammond. https://t.co/mzxMZpN4xv

This feels unfair but questions about recruitment do need to be asked.
Ivan Toney and Mark McKenzie were both identified but we low-balled offers for them. Why?
Who ‘scouted’ Shane Duffy? Who sanctioned that loan move? https://t.co/SauFmeTdwp

I just feel like the hierarchy are trying to blame everyone else bar Neil Lennon and Peter Lawwell for this season. https://t.co/A7lO1lewSD

Feel bad for any of our head of recruitments tbh. The board end up signing their 3rd or 4th choice targets.
We know for a fact Lennons #1 target was Toney, he got Ajeti.
He wanted Omar Colley, he got Duffy.
He wanted Sessegnon, he got Laxalt.
Turnbull only one we got https://t.co/v2hVlYVWzp

Surely they won’t make Hammond the fall guy. He’s part of the problem but certainly not the biggest part of it https://t.co/SddQRPciMf

Good if true time to get a DOF/Manager in who must be left to do their own thing without interference! https://t.co/3mwWBZA9BG
