Read MoreCeltic fans divided over Peter Lawwell departure and legacy
Celtic have announced that Peter Lawwell will retire in the summer.
His will be a complicated legacy. During his 17 years as CEO, Celtic have enjoyed unprecedented domestic success. 13 league titles have been secured, as well as four domestic trebles and a number of memorable European nights.
However, Lawwell has been the subject of plenty of criticism. During his spell, Celtic have been involved in scandals like the recent Dubai trip. In many supporters’ view, he has been part of a boardroom that became complacent during 9IAR, and allowed standards to slip.
This season, board protests have targeted Lawwell in particular. His loyalty to Neil Lennon, as part of the board, have no doubt cost Celtic in the chase for 10-in-a-row. Equally, the recruitment at Celtic has been worsened since the departure of Brendan Rodgers.

Sad way to end such a successful tenure. No doubt there were mistakes but I’ll forever be grateful I was able to see such a dominant and successful period. People will eventually appreciate it all much like how people appreciate what Fergus McCann did years after.

Timing is everything.
Too long in office. A disastrous end to a fantastic career.

You only have to look at the trophy cabinet and despite this season, dominance of Scottish football not seen since Stein’s era to appreciate what Peter has done. He goes with my best wishes and I look forward to a reset that will continue our dominance on and off the field
