Celtic announced a pre-season friendly with Newcastle United this morning.

Eddie Howe visits Celtic Park four years after being heavily linked with the manager’s job after Neil Lennon left the club in 2021.

With Celtic needing to start pre-season preparations early this summer due to Champions League qualifier commitments, the club organised a friendly against the Premier League club.

And as details of the announcement became clear, Celtic fans sent the club a furious message.

Why Celtic fans are raging at pricing of Newcastle friendly

Celtic announced the pre-season friendly on the official website before posting the details on social media.

But as Celtic supporters realised that fans were being charged between £13 and £25 for a meaningless game, they quickly sent the Parkhead club a message.

One fan said, “Disgrace asking fans to stump up £25 a ticket especially after hiking up season ticket prices AGAIN.” as another supporter added, “Should be on the season tickets. I’ll pass thanks.”

And the criticism didn’t stop there. One Celtic fan raged, “What are we doing as a club here? £25 for a preseason friendly is being ridiculous. The club are getting further and further away from the club we expect it to be. This is appalling.”

The season ticket message continues with this from another frustrated Hoops supporter.

Newcastle fans are unhappy at Celtic fixture but for a very different reason

With Celtic fans clearly unhappy at being charged for the game, what do Newcastle supporters think?

Another Magpies fan said, “Why are a lot of preseason matches now for some pointless trophy? Anyway sort the rest of the Asia games out man so I can sort my flights, prices are going up as each week passes.”

However, one Newcastle fan was delighted to be coming back to Scotland, “Back to Glasgow it is.”

The last time Newcastle travelled to Glasgow was back in 2004 when they beat Rangers 2-1 at Ibrox. The last time Celtic faced the Premier League club was in another friendly in held in St James’ Park in 2007 the Bhoys lost 4-1.
