Sections of the Celtic support have expressed real concern over the chances of signing Shane Duffy this summer.
Hungarian champions Ferencvaros toppled the Hoops 2-1 at Celtic Park to progress to the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League last night.

Worryingly for the Celtic support, the defeat once again came down to poor individual errors at the back which mirrored ones against CFR Cluj and Copenhagen respectively.
Throughout the summer, the club has also been the subject of a signing saga involving Brighton defender Duffy (Daily Record). And, after last night’s performance, many Hoops fans are concerned that our chances of getting him are now over.

The carrot of 10-in-a-row can’t be forgotten
Last night was a massive blow, and as such there are going to be a lot of emotional opinions flying around.
Yes, losing Champions League football ultimately means that we’re losing one of the key carrots we can dangle at potential signing targets.
However, for Celtic supporters like Duffy, their desire to join the club surely won’t rest solely on Champions League football. The prospect of winning 10-in-a-row should be mouth-watering for the Republic of Ireland international, regardless of the fact he could still play in “the Prem”.

There are also concerns over the financial impact of any deal. But remember, Lennon said in the build-up to last night’s game that he doesn’t need the Champions League money to bring in his targets.
Duffy is quite clearly one of those targets. Therefore, this is a deal that Celtic can surely still do if they push the boat out.
After last night, the club needs to provide supporters with a tonic. Something to lift the mood in what is the most important season we’ve had since we stopped the 10 in 1998. Duffy would certainly do that.
In other news, Celtic boss Neil Lennon provided supporters with a concerning update regarding Odsonne Edouard.
