The Celtic supporters were finally allowed to enjoy a Sky Sports broadcast of one of their games last night, and it was all thanks to Kris Boyd being absent.

Watching the Hoops live on Sky has been a tiresome affair this season. Not only because the vast majority of the time we’ve been poor either. Nope, but because we’ve had to sit and endure former Rangers striker Boyd.

Listen, he is what he is. He’s an ex-Rangers striker who’s employed by Sky to cover Scottish football. But there’s certainly a lack of objectivity.

Boyd has really ramped up his usage of snide remarks or digs at Celtic during our live matches. If it isn’t him doing his trademark grin for the watching Rangers fans, it’s him landing verbal digs wherever he can [Scottish Sun].

Finally, yesterday, we got to watch a Celtic game live on Sky without Boyd looking to provoke the Hoops-supporting audience. Instead, it was James McFadden and John Collins who took to the studio.

Sky Sports will have Kris Boyd back on soon

According to the Daily Record, this was simply down to nothing more than the rota. Boyd hasn’t been on every Sky broadcast of a Scottish football game this season. Although, granted, it feels like it.

However, the Record report that Boyd’s absence last night had nothing to do with any fan anger. He’ll likely be back covering Celtic again at some stage. Something that simply isn’t enjoyable viewing for Parkhead fans. Boyd was, however, covering the game for Gillette Soccer Special.

Even so, it was nice to actually see some pundits praising Celtic and focusing mainly on the positives. Not one looking to create controversy or try to get our players retrospectively banned.

And it’s fair to say the Celtic fans were pleased to see a Sky production involving their team without Boyd being there to spoil it:

In other news, two Sky Sports pundits lavished praise on one Celtic star.
