The Celtic fans have been speaking highly of St Mirren for the quality of their pitch ahead of tonight’s match.

There were fears regarding whether the clash between the Buddies and the Hoops would go ahead this evening. This comes after Scotland was effectively covered in blankets of snow over the last couple of days.

Livingston’s clash against Hamilton, which was also scheduled for this evening, has fallen due to the adverse weather conditions. There were as many as eight inches of snow covering the Tony Macaroni Arena surface this morning.

Paisley hasn’t fared much better in truth. The central belt of Scotland has been hit badly. Yet it’s a much different story at the Simple Digital Arena. Not with regards to the snowfall, but with regards to the removal of it.

St Mirren provided an update on their pitch earlier this afternoon. At around mid-day, they published an image of their stadium and stated it was in “good condition” ahead of tonight’s game.

It certainly looked like that was the case too. The Buddies had managed to totally clear the pitch, with the snow pushed to the outside. It looks like it took a tremendous effort from the ground staff in Paisley.

Championship side Inverness have also had to call off their clash against Alloa, another game scheduled for this evening. This was also due to “snow and extreme temperatures”.

Kilmarnock vs Motherwell, as things stand, is due to go ahead too.

But it’s not just the fact the Paisley pitch has no snow on it. The surface looks in terrific nick for this time of the year. St Mirren have undersoil heating, but that hardly guarantees a smooth surface. Celtic Park and Ibrox, the two biggest stadiums in Scottish football, have both seen their pitches cut up over the winter period. St Mirren look to have avoided that.

And thanks to that, the Buddies have managed to attract plenty of praise from the Hoops support. Here’s a look at some of the reaction to their mid-day update:
