Celtic fans full of praise for Urhoghide as he reflects on first 90 minutes for Hoops
It went a little under the radar, but new Celtic defender Osaze Urhoghide performed well on his first 90 minutes for the Bhoys.
Urhoghide was utilised as a centre-back throughout the goalless draw with Bristol City. Barring a couple of shaky moments, the Bhoys were solid defensively.
And social media savvy ex-Sheffield Wednesday man Urhoghide is clearly pleased with how the game went. In his first post-match tweet (albeit, a friendly), Urhoghide said “Solid 90 mins and a clean sheet”.
That sums it up pretty neatly. Both Urhoghide and Stephen Welsh looked comfortable on the ball throughout. With Scott Bain in for the injured Vasilis Barkas, Celtic looked cohesive off the ball.
Urhoghide and his team-mates were quick to pressure out of possession, and dominated on it. Unfortunately, the Bhoys couldn’t make a mark on the score-line. As pre-season friendlies go, though, it was a perfectly satisfactory result.
It wasn’t, however, a perfect night. The aforementioned Barkas was injured in the warm-up. During the game, Ismaila Soro, Karamoko Dembele and Mikey Johnston all picked up knocks.
From Urhoghide’s perspective, he’ll surely be hoping all four recover quickly. However, the former Owls defender must be delighted about the smooth transition he’s made to life at Celtic thus far.

Clearly, Celtic supporters are impressed by what they’re seeing from Urhoghide so far. His signing remains an interesting one; will he become a regular under Ange Postecoglou?
If he’s able to contribute to clean sheets, then surely.
