Celtic fans have been reacting to the return of the Green Brigade.

After five months of the group being absent from their usual Safe Standing section of the North Curve at Celtic Park, the club put a long-awaited end to the ban on Tuesday.

They will be back in their usual spot in Saturday’s home clash with St Mirren, the first of four league matches before the end of the campaign for Martin O’Neill’s side.

The group are known to divide opinion, but a majority of TalkingPoints users have reacted positively to the news.

Celtic fans happy with the return of the Green Brigade

One user said: “We all need to be behind our team, great news, an extra man indeed, mon the Hoops. Should’ve been done long ago.”

Another said: “It’s great news for the team. Hopefully the hierarchy can stop hiding behind the SAG [Safety Advisory Group] though, and hopefully the GB do not give them any ammunition to reissue the ban.”

Another evidently opposed the ban in the first place, saying: “Great news and long overdue. Welcome back GB, should never have been away. Now let’s get on and win the title.”

Another two supporters of their return said “Great news for the team and atmosphere” and “brilliant for the run in” respectively.

These views were the overwhelming majority, but not unanimous. One fan criticised the group, saying: “They’re great for atmosphere, but they should draw a line between singing and then doing all the dodgy political stuff that makes Celtic look bad.

“The Protest against the board is fair play, though they’ve every right to speak up, the board are useless.”

The ban started after Celtic cited “unacceptable behaviour” at a home Scottish Premiership match against Falkirk in November.

Initially three games long, it was eventually extended indefinitely, leading a series of statements from both sides in a lengthy dispute between the two parties.

In the name of a crucial title race, said dispute looks to have been put to one side.
