Neil Lennon has dished out some high praise to Celtic winger Marian Shved this week after being impressed by the 22-year-old in Dubai training.
Celtic fans are looking for the team to hit a new gear in the second half of the season after a disappointing end to December. We’re locked in a tough title fight and also have ambitions to progress in Europe.
Part of that will be about whether or not Lennon can significantly freshen up his match squads with new talent in the transfer window and some other emerging prospects already at the club.
It sounds like Shved is in line to get an opportunity, with the manager telling The Scottish Sun: “He’s doing well. He’s training well. He’s looking lively and has been a wee bit of a bonus this week. It’s an opportunity to just explode onto it.
“It’s not easy for guys to adapt sometimes, especially if family is not there as well. He’s a bit of a slow burner, but he’s still young and I’ve really liked what I have seen of him. He’s been good.”
With plenty of matches on the immediate horizon in multiple competitions, the Ukrainian international may just be trusted to make his first-ever Celtic start sooner rather than later.
That what some supporters are craving, having been excited by the player ever since it was announced he would join last summer.
His season last term with Karpaty Lviv was impressive and the hope has been he can replicate it in Glasgow.
These fans have taken to Twitter over the last 24 hours to share their thoughts on Lennon’s comments, urging the Hoops boss to now give him the chance he needs to shine…
Give him a chance then Lenny

Actions speak louder than words Neil. #CelticFC have Shved & Dembele. At least stop looking elsewhere and give the Bhoys a chance, otherwise Jamsie will be burnt out & Shved & Dembele will look away.

This is great to read! Was really looking forward to seeing him he looked brilliant last season and has been a bit baffling watching us struggle at times in wider positions and him nowhere to be seen! Get him in against Partick give the kid some confidence! 🍀

Hopefully that’s right. We had high hopes for him, but anti-climax doesn’t cover it.
I’m just a bit sceptical about how Shved & Arzani, with about 25 mins game time between them in over 2 years, have suddenly come good in Dubai & will have a material impact during the run in.

The boy looks one of the best ballers we have why he hasn’t had more of a chance I just can’t fathom.
