The Celtic supporters have been ignored by the club once again if the Herald’s report on Neil Lennon last night was anything to go by.
Indeed, the newspaper stated that Lennon won’t be resigning from his Celtic post anytime soon, and that he has the full backing of the club’s hierarchy.
This is despite the fact that the fans have been left raging with his decision-making and performances in recent weeks. So much so that you’ll do well to find a fan who wants Lennon to stay in the job for the foreseeable future.
Celtic are currently 11 points behind Rangers at the top of the Premiership table, albeit with two games in-hand. The Hoops head to Ibrox in early January, and defeat in that one would all but end our 10-in-a-row hopes unless we’ve closed the gap substantially by then.
However, the board is simply being oblivious to the supporters’ frustrations here. Let’s look at all of the disasters that have occurred this season alone.
Kilmarnock 1-1 Celtic. Celtic 1-2 Ferencvaros. Celtic 0-2 Rangers. Aberdeen 3-3 Celtic. Celtic 1-3 AC Milan. Celtic 1-4 Sparta Prague. Hibernian 2-2 Celtic. That’s not even mentioning the games in which we were extremely unfortunate to get a result. If we’re doing that, you can chuck games against St Mirren, Livingston, Dundee United, St Johnstone, Riga, and Sarajevo into the mix too.
It’s an astounding run of dreadful performanes, and it’s at the stage now where you can count the good displays on one hand. We’re in November for goodness sake.
Yet still the board reportedly back the manager as supporters continue to call for him to go. The club is showing a blatant disregard for the supporters’ir customers’ demands, and it’s something that they can’t continue to do.
We’re still at a stage in the season where the campaign is retrievable, but that’s more of a reason to make a big change now as opposed to keeping Lennon in his managerial post. It won’t be long until the damage is done, and we’ll be regretting not taking action sooner.
