Kristoffer Ajer’s omission from the PFA Young Player of the Year nominations has Celtic fans furious.

Hoops supporters have been taking to social media to voice their displeasure in huge numbers.

Ajer has been an absolute standout for Celtic this season. He’s managed 44 appearances for club and country this term, and has 27 clean sheets in all competitions throughout the season.

But instead, he’s incredibly been overlooked for Motherwell’s Jake Hastie. Ryan Kent, David Turnbull, and Lewis Ferguson are all also in the mix for the award too. Yet, despite that, none of the four have had the success Ajer has this season. And Celtic supporters have taken to Twitter to slam the decision.

Shambolic on another level

Nobody is pretending that the awards should be all Celtic players. That’s not fair and we all get that, but to not even have Ajer in the conversation is absolutely embarrassing.

Hastie has only spent three months at Motherwell playing consistent football week-in, week-out. He was at Alloa Athletic for the first half of the season. So how can you justify including the Motherwell youngster in ahead of Ajer?

It doesn’t particularly matter who wins the award at this rate. Not having Ajer in the discussion actually devalues it, as it’s difficult to take it too seriously without the Norwegian up as a nominee.

There’s even an argument for Odsonne Edouard to be in there too. But it’s understandable considering the Frenchman’s lack of consistency as to why he missed out this term.

But the decision to omit Ajer isn’t one that will become clear in time. He’s performed to a higher level than any of the four current nominees up for the award. Hopefully, when the Football Writers’ Awards come up at the end of the season, Ajer is given more recognition there.
