Celtic fans may be keen to stick their phones on silent on Tuesday evening as CFR Cluj take on Slavia Prague in the Champions League.
It’s a fixture that the Hoops should really have been looking forward to. Celtic Park would have been packed to the rafters for the visit of the Czech champions who reached the Europa League last eight last season.
The Champions League advertising boards would be in and so would have been the famous anthem prior to kick-off. It really is a shame that we forfeited all of that against the Romanians.
We will instead have to watch on with envy, and focus on our very own Thursday match as we aim to make the next stage of the Europa League.
Slavia should be too strong for Cluj
The Czech champions will be seen as pretty clear favourites for the tie. Although they’ll take nothing for granted they will feel that having the away leg first is a big advantage.
They’ll no doubt have looked at Cluj during their two ties against us and found out some of the key mistakes we made. If the Czechs can come away with any sort of positive away result they should be pretty big favourites to complete the job at home.
The winner of the tie will enter the hallowed Champions League group stage with the loser joining the Europa League’s version – perhaps to meet Celtic.
