Celtic fans haven’t taken kindly to comments from Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd about striker Leigh Griffiths, who continued his return to fitness against Ross County on Sunday.

The outspoken former Rangers man suggested live on air that Griffiths has just weeks to save his Celtic career under Neil Lennon after he wasn’t included from the start against the Staggies.

As quoted by Sky Sports (01/12 live coverage, 11:48), he said: “You look back at yourself and think you have done a bit more in training some days? Maybe you could have. Leigh Griffiths right now is at that crossroads in his career.

“For me, he has got four weeks to save his Celtic career. If he doesn’t show Neil Lennon inside these four weeks, they will go and recruit a striker in January and for me, it will be over for Griffiths.”

It’s a pretty harsh assessment considering he hasn’t started a match since August. Lennon is hardly going to throw a player into an important match before he’s ready to play.

Lewis Morgan also played very well against French Cup winners Rennes on Thursday and deserved to keep his place in the team.

Lennon showed that Griffiths is still very much in his plans by giving him a good run out in the second half, helping him build towards big games on the horizon.

There’s no indication that the club are making any plans to get rid of him, so to suggest that as he rebounds from a difficult year is unfair.

These fans certainly weren’t happy with the comments, taking to Twitter today to share their thoughts…
