It wouldn’t truly be a Celtic transfer window without some chat about Paddy Roberts returning to the club.

The mercurial winger was a huge fans favourite with the Hoops support during his three seasons at Parkhead between 2016 and 2018.

Yesterday, we told you how Manchester Evening News journalist Simon Bajkowski had given an update on Roberts’ future – suggesting that he’s likely to be on the move again this summer.

Twitter page Man City Xtra relayed that update on Wednesday and lots of Celtic fans have been interacting with the tweet, as they hope and pray for a Roberts return.

Signing Roberts would give the whole club a boost

So lots of Celtic fans would clearly like to see Roberts back. Whether the winger would like to return seems like the more pressing issue.

Since leaving us in mid-2018, Roberts has spent loan spells at Girona, Norwich and Middlesbrough. He seemed to be pretty well liked at the latter, before the COVID shutdown ended his season.

Roberts is a winger who knows Celtic well and, at 23,  is much younger than you would expect.

If City are indeed keen to offload him this summer then we should be near the front of the queue.

The boost a signing like Roberts would bring the support would be huge, not to mention the kick up the backside it may give to the likes of James Forrest.
