With the spotlight firmly on Shane Duffy after he scored on his debut yesterday, it’s easy to overlook the first cameo appearance of Ismaila Soro in competitive action.
With the Hoops sailing to an easy win in Dingwall, Neil Lennon used the opportunity to get some fresh faces on for the final few moments. Soro, therefore, was given the last 12 minutes as he came on for the ever-present Callum McGregor.

It may only have been the closing stages of a game we were comfortable in, but Soro fitted in like a glove. He was always looking to move the ball forward, with none of his attempted passes going loose. His vibrancy was an added positive in a day full of them.
And these Hoops fans on social media were certainly delighted to see him in action. Here’s a look at some of their reactions below:

A cameo to build on
It was terrific seeing Soro for the first time in competitive action. Despite a flurry of pre-season outings this term, nothing compares to the real thing.
Soro’s last competitive game came back in January when he was with former club Bnei Yehuda. He featured in a 90-minute performance against Israeli side Hapoel Afula. Since then, however, it’s been month after month of hard training as he waited for his Celtic debut.
What we saw of him in Dingwall has many of us looking forward to more. Soro was extremely tidy in possession and didn’t once give the ball away.

However, perhaps most impressively, there was nothing “safe” about Soro’s approach to the game. He was intent on moving the ball forward and trying to add to the Hoops’ 5-0 lead over the Staggies.
He’s a player who looks happy to risk making a mistake or two so long as the reward is to potentially get his team forward. That’s an impressive trait considering it would’ve been easy for him to simply come on to the pitch and make easy passes.
Soro was a player looking to make an impact yesterday, and he did so amongst many in the support who enjoyed his cameo. Will there be more minutes ahead for him? He certainly hasn’t done his chances any harm.
