Celtic fans seem split on the possibility of Mikael Lustig being offered a new deal by the club. The 34-year-old is out of contract at the club and is rumoured to have options back in his native Sweden.

Neil Lennon could still bid to keep him though, as he aims to keep strength in an already depleted position.
Such a move would leave these fans scratching their heads.

Not all fans are in the same camp though. These people would be happy to see the Swede stick around at the club, just not as first choice. They appreciate the influence Lustig has had at the club in recent years and think he could be important going forward too.

Opinion
If Celtic do offer Mikael Lustig a two-year deal then it may not come across too well with fans. The club have already been seen criticised for taking a step back by appointing Neil Lennon.
Keeping an ageing Lustig around may not reflect too well either. This summer must be seen as a chance to add a freshness to the club as we aim to finish off ten-in-a-row. Lustig wouldn’t offer us that.

Sentimentality can’t come into our minds when going for the famous milestone. We must take each decision on a professional capacity of what the player can offer us in the future and not what they have in the past.
Lustig looks like a good option as cover but he we can’t afford to have him as our main starter for a long and testing season.
