Celtic have announced the departure of Lee Congerton from the club. The Englishman, who had been Head of Recruitment since 2017, has left “to take up new opportunities”.

Congerton was appointed by former Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers and will join up with the Northern Irishman at Leicester over the coming days.

He presided over a number of botched transfer dealings, most notably Marvin Compper who has started once in 18 months at the club.

It is no great surprise that Congerton has departed Celtic Park, but fans have still taken pleasure in the move. That’s if Twitter is to go by.

Meanwhile, these fans already know who they want to replace the Englishman..

The obvious candidate

Time will tell whether Park returns to the club. He’s used to working under Neil Lennon so if the Northern Irishman gets the gig full-time then it may help his case.

The scout was responsible for identifying the likes of Virgil Van Dijk and Victor Wanyama in his first time at the club so it’s no surprise that fans want to see him return.

For now, though, they’re re just basking in the joy of one of the club’s most vilified figures leaving the building.
