The idea of Danny Simpson to Celtic has certainly caught the attention of most in our support.
This morning, the Scottish Sun revealed that former Leicester City right-back Simpson was coming to Parkhead for a trial. Celtic are in urgent need of a right-back, and it would hardly be surprising if this trial turns out to be legitimate.

Talking about football only, Simpson is a former Premier League winner. But last season he made just 13 appearances for Leicester City in all competitions. He certainly would take some work to get his match sharpness back, even if he has been training with Leicester to keep fit.
Supporters have been giving their reaction to the news and have taken everything into account on Simpson. Here’s a look at what they had to say on Twitter.

Danny Simpson to Celtic will be tough to get through supporters
The elephant in a room is clearly Simpson’s past. That’s going to be a troubling aspect to any potential move Celtic make for him. Supporters don’t just let things like that slide, especially at Celtic.

But in terms of football, it would be difficult to say whether he would work up here or not. His flashy Premier League title success reflects well on him. He’s also played for Newcastle United and QPR in the Premier League too. He’s not short on experience at the highest level, even if he’s been short on appearances over the last year.
There’s something that doesn’t sit right with the intent shown here, however. We have money in the bank. It’s not even worth going into a debate about whether we do. We have money, and plenty of it. Celtic supporters all know that. Shouldn’t we be splashing the cash on as good a right-back as we can find across Europe?

Simpson on a free certainly doesn’t sound ambitious. You can also bet he would be nowhere near Celtic Park if he wasn’t being selected as first-choice too. With someone of his experience and age, he’ll want to be playing regularly next year.
But this is a deal that doesn’t show much intent and will prove difficult to get through to the supporters. Celtic can do with not really going down this route, but it looks like the decision has been made.
