Celtic fans react to John Kennedy's link to Hibernian

The John Kennedy to Hibernian link appears to have come completely out of the blue over the last couple of days.

First off, Harry Kewell looked the favourite to be the new Hibs boss after attending their game at St Johnstone. However, he played that idea down and simply labeled the Easter Road side “an option” (BBC).

Neil Lennon then had to bat away questions about Kennedy’s future after our 2-0 win over Motherwell on Sunday (BBC). The latest news comes today from the Scottish Sun, however, who’ve stated that Hibs are preparing an approach to make Kennedy their top man this week.

Celtic supporters have been reacting to the recent news too. It’s fair to say that many don’t want the deal to go through either:

Kennedy leaving is something we could do without

If Hibs do make an approach to Celtic for Kennedy, you can see the attraction there. A chance to manage one of the biggest clubs in Scotland for a first managerial job is certainly a rarity.

But from a Celtic perspective, we could do without this leading to anything. At a time when the title-race is neck-and-neck, we have a solid structure in place when it comes to the backroom team. If this were to change for any reason, there are several aspects of the club that could be affected.

A new assistant manager may have to learn more about Neil Lennon’s managerial style. If it’s someone from the outside, new relationships would have to be formed and at a time in the season when we’ll be playing nearly every three-four days.

Johan Mjallby has said in the past that he would be interested in a return to work with Lennon (Open Goal). Lenny could also have the option of pushing Damien Duff up to be his new assistant.

Of course, none of this will be happening if Kennedy refuses to move to Hibs, or if the Edinburgh club decide against going in for him.

But considering the timing of the reported interest, it would be ideal if we managed to keep everyone in the backroom team in place for now.
