Celtic fans have reacted to Reo Hatate’s revelation that he desires a Celtic exit to a major European League.

This week, Hatate revealed that he ‘wasn’t satisfied’ at Celtic and that his ambition was to play more regularly at the top level.

The midfielder was bombed out of Martin O’Neill’s squad for the final couple of games of the 2026-27 season, and the interim boss has since agreed a permanent stay.

Given how he has faded out in Glasgow, is he overconfident to anticipate a move to the top level? Celtic fans on TalkingPoints have been having their say.

Celtic fans on Reo Hatate comments: ‘Look at Kyogo’

One fan is tired of the 27-year-old’s downbeat vibe, and is happy to see him go, saying: “Hatate’s negativity would be better elsewhere, we don’t need it.

“He claims he wants to play in a top dive league – well, his attitude probably makes that unlikely. Thanks for the memories, ta ta.”

Another agreed that his time is up, but warned Hatate that the grass isn’t always greener, saying: “Let Reo slide on… but beware. Look at your pal Kyogo [Furuhashi].”

Kyogo left Celtic with the world at his feet 18 months ago, but now finds himself out of favour at Birmingham City in the English second tier.

Another fan thinks that Hatate hasn’t shown himself to be good enough for the top level of late, saying: “Going by what Hatate has produced during the past 18 months, he isn’t anywhere near enough for any of the top 5 leagues.”

Also baffled by the top-five league claim, another said: “I think letting him go now would be best for all parties involved.

“Yet, I wonder why he’s talking about playing in a top five league when he hasn’t even played much in Scotland lately.

“No doubt he has the quality, but since [Ange Postecoglou] left, he’s been more or less invisible.”

Finally, one fan wants to see the space left by Hatate filled by Paulo Bernardo, with youngsters given more first-team opportunities.

They said: “Let him leave and upgrade Paolo Bernardo’s role in the squad. Give Jude Bonnar a run with [Sean McCardle], and [Kyle] Ure.

“Get the Scottish places filled in the Squad for Europe, before all the young talent jump ship.”
