Celtic fans reflect on glorious Ibrox success as club posts throwback tweet

It’s a year to the day since Neil Lennon’s Celts strutted up at Ibrox and did a real number on Steven Gerrard’s Rangers.

Odsonne Edouard scored a beautifully cool finish before telling the Ibrox support to “calm down” with his goal celebration. With Celtic hitting Rangers effectively on the counter-attack, Jonny Hayes would wrapped up the points late on in what was a huge win that turned our season around.

The club were certainly in no mood to just let the day pass without touching on it either. Indeed, the Hoops’ official Twitter account posted a tweet in which they published the “Unique Angle” footage of both goals.

It was never going to just go under the radar either. The Celtic fans swarmed to the post and gave their own reflection of that memorable day in Govan. Here’s a look at some of that reaction:

A sign of how quickly football can change

That glorious success at Ibrox came just over two weeks after Celtic had been knocked out of the Champions League by CFR Cluj. That fateful night saw Lennon come under similar pressure to what he’s under now.

However, two fine wins over AIK in Europa League qualifying and a derby success had the Hoops supporters smiling again. It’s funny how results can do that.

Lennon now finds himself in that exact same position. Bundled out of Europe’s top competition by Ferencvaros, we’re in need of a pick-me-up.

Sunday’s 3-0 win against Motherwell doesn’t do it. It’s going to take some genuine progress on the park and potentially a similar derby success when we face Rangers once again next month.

But Lennon and the Celtic squad can take optimism from how quickly the mood changed just 12 months ago. Similar can happen this season if the players and manager get their act together and produce a consistent run of form.

What a day like this one at Ibrox can do for confidence at a football club. Hopefully we find that out again next month.
