Celtic fans send UEFA a message after daft late-night Europa League question

Celtic’s Europa League result against Feyenoord had to be the result of the night, right?

Celtic fans certainly thought so as they celebrated the win against Feyenoord after watching an emphatic performance and three away goals.

Goals from Hyunjun Yang, Reo Hatate and Benjamin Nygren saw Celtic fight back after Feyenoord took an early 11th minute lead in De Kuip.

However, as Celtic supporters rejoiced, UEFA sent out a strange late-night tweet trying to spark debate on whether or not the Hoops result was the best performance of the week.

UEFA compare Celtic’s win at Feyenoord to Lyon’s thrashing of Maccabi Tel Aviv

The win at Feyenoord was no ordinary victory. Martin O’Neill’s Celtic starting XI looked like a second-string team as Luke McCowan started on the right wing with Yang on the left.

Sum up that win in one word…

Coupled with playing at the Eredivisie second-placed team’s home ground and playing them off the park to win 3-1 from 1-0 down, Celtic’s performance was sparkling.

But UEFA tried to spark debate with this dubious tweet:

Lyon beat Maccabi 6-0 at their own ground but let’s not forget that the Ligue 1 side were heavy favourites to win a match against a team who had scored just one goal and conceded eight before last night’s thrashing.

And Celtic supporters were having none of it.

Celtic fans tell UEFA where to stick their Europa League comparison

Indeed. However, as Celtic fans reacted to the tweet, 67 Hail Hail picked out the best, and cleanest of all the replies.

With his tongue firmly in cheek, @stromunde replied, “Ask most Celtic supporters and we will gladly give it to Lyon.”

@CWN1967 simply replied, “Celtic’s comeback.”

The rest of the replies in the thread were, quite frankly, unpublishable but in our eyes, there is no question.

Celtic’s win at Feyenoord was the result and performance of the round. Hands down.
