The SPFL have issued some advice to Celtic supporters and fans of other Glasgow sides as a large sporting event comes to the city.
Glasgow is hosting the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships from Thursday 3 to Sunday 13 August.
It’s the inaugural edition of the competition which brings together various disciplines of cycling that previously had their own world championships.
Hundreds of thousands of spectators are expected to turn out to watch the events which include track, road BMX and para categories.
It’s a pretty large sporting event for the city to be hosting and chances are, if you’ve been around Glasgow recently, you’ll have seen something to do with it.
Celtic begin their new Premiership campaign at home to Ross County on Saturday 5 August and the SPFL clearly feel that there will be some disruption, given that they’ve felt the need to release a press release. (SPFL)

In it, they ask supporters to plan ahead at the start of the new season. They say the cycling will “likely impact travel surrounding games in the city” and that supporters should allow extra time for travel to matches.
They mention our Flag Day clash and also say that the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome — situated right next to Celtic Park — will be hosting a number of events on the same day.
That means that the Dalmarnock area could be particularly busy that day, but it is worth pointing out that the Emirates Arena has hosted other high-profile events at the same time as Celtic Park in the past.

The city did also host the COP26 climate change conference back in 2021, so Celtic fans are used to being inconvenienced.
Thankfully, the Ross County fixture is the only home one we have during the championships so any issues will just be for one day.
The game against the Staggies is a 12:30pm kick-off so you’ll need to get up even earlier if you’re going along.
