The idea of a Max Lowe transfer from Derby County to Celtic seems to be splitting the Hoops support.
The Daily Express have reported an exclusive that claims that Celtic and Rangers are rivaling each other for the left-back. The report even claims that Steven Gerrard has sounded out Frank Lampard over the idea.

Lowe spent last season on loan at Aberdeen. Despite looking impressive for the Dons in 42 outings last term, he didn’t overly standout throughout the campaign as a potential Kieran Tierney replacement. But not many would deny that there’s potential there.
And reacting to the news on Twitter, the Celtic are split on whether they would take the former Dons loan star.

We all know we would be downgrading with Max Lowe transfer
If Tierney left the club and we brought in Lowe, we all know that it would be a downgrade. He isn’t anywhere near as productive as Tierney, and would take plenty of time before he got to that level.
But at the same time, the same could be said for most players we could sign as his replacement. If we lose Tierney, as a support we’ll have to accept that we will downgrade. Tierney is too prestigious a talent to be replaced easily.

It’s whether the Celtic board feel that Derby County’s Lowe has the potential to be what Tierney is. Lowe is currently only 22-years of age. So if he did sign, Celtic would have plenty of time to work with him, and there’s certainly potential there.
The left-back is tremendous on the overlap and gives his wingers great support. That’s the kind of full-back Neil Lennon loves, as he often tells his wing-backs to go beyond the wingers.
But do you then question the ambition of the board? Surely there are more high-quality alternatives across Europe that we could sign. Especially as our new first choice should Tierney depart.

As much as Lowe is a decent player with plenty of potential, he’s not ready to be our number one left-back. He would take some time to be of that quality.
And then if that’s the case, do we really need him? After all, don’t we have Andrew Gutman who’s supposed to be fulfilling that understudy role?
This is a deal that looks underwhelming at face value. But if Celtic see potential and ability, a Max Lowe transfer to Parkhead isn’t out of the question.
