Celtic supporters have been struggling to get behind a potential deal for Scott McTominay.
The Manchester United midfielder is seriously interesting Celtic according to multiple sources. These include the likes of Sky Sports, who believe that Celtic are in talks over a loan deal for the midfielder.
But many Hoops supporters certainly aren’t interested in the deal.

We made the argument earlier this week over why Celtic should avoid doing a deal. We even debated whether it was the most pointless signing the club would make in years.
And supporters don’t generally seem to be much more enthused about the deal either.
Scott McTominay that would be a strange one 🤷♀️ #Celtic

Not sure Scott McTominay going to #Celtic on loan is best for the club. He’s kept out of the Scotland squad by the #Celtic midfield!

Scott McTominay 🤔makes no sense at all which means he is likely coming to Celtic 😂😂

McTominay on loan?? No thanks, why the short term deals? Why we not moving forward and improving the quality in the first team?

Aye Celtic that’s what to do, sign McTominay who’s out of favour in the Scotland squad and can’t get a game because of the Celtic players that are in the Scotland squad are ahead of him. 😂😂😂 What’s the actual point in that loan?

Would love to see a CB and a LB come in. Even better if Celtic also added a RB. McTominay, not convinced.

May as well announce Steve Clarke at the same time as McTominay. Writing is on the wall if he signs on loan.

Actually don’t see the point in us signing McTominay not a position we need to strengthen & yet again a pointless loan, wish Celtic would actually spend some money

Not many want the deal done
It’s evident across the general reaction to the news on social media that not many want McTominay at Celtic. There are a small element of positive posts regarding the move, but the general feeling of the support is clear.
Regardless, it doesn’t look as though Brendan Rodgers or Celtic are too bothered by that. They’re still having a strong look at their man, and will bring him in irrespective of what us supporters think.
Looking at the deal logically, however, it’s difficult to see how this move is any use at all. The player himself has reservations about a move to Celtic due to the fact that there is massive competition for places here. And he’s quite right.

If the United youngster comes in, he’ll be fifth choice at the highest. Callum McGregor, Scott Brown, Ryan Christie, and Olivier Ntcham will surely all be ahead of McTominay.
This isn’t a deal that looks like it works out for anyone on paper. McTominay needs to build on his 25 United appearances from last season. To do that he needs to play week-in, week-out. He won’t be doing that at Celtic.
Perhaps the reports will lead to nothing, but Celtic are clearly interested.
