Celtic fans surprised by potential Marvin Compper inclusion

Rumours of Marvin Compper’s inclusion in tonight’s match at St Mirren has surprised Celtic supporters on social media.

The German centre-back has only made one appearance for the Hoops since signing back in December 2017. That match came in a routine Scottish Cup clash against Morton not long after signing. Therefore, he’s made no appearances for the Parkhead side this season.

But according to the Daily Record, Compper could take part this evening. All will be revealed around an hour before kick-off, but it would still come as a huge shock to see Compper back among the fold.

Supporters have been giving their reaction to the idea on Twitter. It’s fair to say that it’s been met with jovial surprise.

Out of the blue

To say Compper’s inclusion would be surprising is probably a huge understatement. Considering both Jozo Simunovic and Filip Benkovic are likely available, this seems an quite incredible decision to make if Neil Lennon carries it through.

Interestingly, Lennon did open the door to Compper coming into contention when he first took charge. The German has featured regularly for the reserves in recent months too.

Compper signed a two-and-a-half year contract when he arrived. Therefore, there’s still plenty of time for him to actually make an impression. But it’s difficult to feel that there’s any way back for him if he doesn’t perform tonight.

St Mirren away will prove to be a battle, but Compper simply must come through it if selected. Celtic fans deserve to be given a few promising performances from him. He could also go a long way to keeping himself at Parkhead beyond the summer if he manages a small run of games between now and the season’s conclusion.

This is certainly one to keep an eye on tonight. Compper’s potential inclusion will likely surprise everyone. But, considering Lennon is still auditioning for the job permanently, it shows he must be confident in him doing a job. Let’s see if he really is set to give the German a chance.
