Celtic fans have been left asking questions after Dom McKay sensationally stepped down as Bhoys CEO.
McKay had only officially been in place since the 1st of July. On his arrival, he made exciting promises to supporters, with talk of modernisation, upgrading football operations and bringing back success.
Nonetheless, barely months later, McKay has left the club. Celtic confirmed the news with a letter to the London Stock Exchange. That was followed up with a statement from the club.
After the unpopularity (in some quarters) of Peter Lawwell, Dom McKay seemed like the breath of fresh air Celtic fans were after. A clear communicator, who had turned around the ailing fortunes of Scottish Rugby, McKay seemed personable and enthusiastic to get going.
Sadly, we’ll never find out what a full McKay tenure might’ve been like. At the very least, he brought Ange Postecoglou to the club.
In his stead, Michael Nicholson has been named acting Chief Executive [Celtic FC]. With eight years of experience as a senior executive, it’s an in-house promotion for now.
Celtic supporters struggle to grasp with McKay news
The Celtic support on social media have reacted with utter shock.
Fans who were critical of the previous regime are particularly disappointed with the news.
