Some Hoops fans have been left in absolute fear as they believe Micah Richards has just dropped a Roy Keane to Celtic hint.

A report today from Football Insider claims that the club has opened talks with Irish legend Keane. This comes after the Scottish Sun stated earlier this month that Keane wanted the job.

Celtic had been in talks with Keane back in 2014. However, after some disagreements with Chief Executive Peter Lawwell, he decided to stay as Republic of Ireland’s assistant manager [BBC].

But these days Keane is out of work in a managerial sense. He can regularly be seen on Sky Sports with his hard-hitting verdicts going against the philosophy of the modern-day footballer.

His last job in management came to an end back in 2011 when he was sacked by Ipswich Town. Outside of getting Sunderland promoted to the Premier League back in 2007, he’s done nothing as a manager to get excited about.

Micah Richards and his Roy Keane hint sends Celtic fans into a panic

Celtic fans have already fallen out with the Parkhead board due to their incompetency this season. A refusal to get rid of Neil Lennon quickly enough ultimately cost us 10-in-a-row. Therefore, it’s expected that his permanent successor would be someone who will regain the excitement of the supporters.

Granted, Richards’ tweet doesn’t actually reveal anything. It’s a meme from The US Office series without any definitive explanation on what it’s about. However, given Richards has jokingly tweeted in the past about packing his bags to be Keane’s assistant manager in Scotland, it hasn’t stopped fans from panicking.

If Man Utd icon Keane is appointed, it’s a name that would instantly command respect. But that’s where the positives end. He’s done nothing of note in his managerial career to merit the Celtic job. In addition to that, when he did leave Sunderland, the players were left reportedly celebrating his departure [The Telegraph].

We spoke extensively on Keane to Celtic earlier today and how it would be an absolutely catastrophic move for the club. It would also highlight majority shareholder Dermot Desmond’s incompetency and would undermine his comments on the managerial hunt just two days ago.

But given the report today from Football Insider, fans have been left worried about the direction of the football club. And Richards’ tweet has only spiked that concern further:

In other news, the Celtic international call-up that should be raising eyebrows.
