Former Celtic boss Davie Hay has delivered a verdict on the goalkeepers at the club that most fans are likely to disagree with.

Hay has told the Evening Times that he believes that Craig Gordon, not Scott Bain, is currently the best goalkeeper at the club.

“I actually still think that Craig Gordon is the better of the two goalkeepers. I don’t say that as a criticism of Bain in any way, it is just a personal preference” he said.

More secure with Bain

Most Hoops fans are would respect Hay’s opinion, but disagree with it. The Hoops have looked far more secure in defence overall since Bain replaced Gordon.

He has brought a calmness to the team which isn’t there when Gordon is in goals. He is also prone to making fewer errors than Gordon.

Hoops boss Neil Lennon seems to disagree with the former Celtic boss too. He has kept Bain in the team since becoming interim manager at the club.

Unlikely to return to first-team

The only way it looks like Gordon will return to the Hoops team this season will be if Bain gets injured. That might well hurt the pride of the former Hoops number one.

It will be intriguing to see if Gordon decides to leave the club in the summer, should he fail to win his place in the side back. He will want to play regular football again, that doesn’t look like happening at Celtic.
