Celtic fans are calling for Dedryck Boyata to be the next Celt to commit his long term future to the club.

After Ryan Christie signed a new three year deal, the onus was placed on the club to tie Boyata down for the future as well.

There was a general consensus coming from the Celtic fans on who should be the next to sign a new deal.

On Twitter, aside from the delight over Christie, one message was clear.

Dedryck Boyata has come a long way in a few months at Celtic.

After refusing to play in Athens, effectively costing Celtic a Champions League spot, it looked like his time was up.

The Celtic support even booed him when he made his first appearance of the season against Hamilton.

Ironically he scored the winner that day, and hasn’t looked back since.

One Celtic fan could hardly congratulate Christie on his new deal for mentioning Boyata’s name.

Of course there were some Celtic fans who let their imagination get the better of them at the news.

A complete turn around

Boyata has been Celtic’s best centre back for the last two years now. Brendan Rodgers plucked him out of obscurity in the Celtic reserves and turned him into a star.

There were many Celtic fans who would have happily driven Boyata to his next club in August.

Even more were comfortable saying they didn’t want him to play for the club again.

Now, after the last few months, it’s clear we need to do everything to keep him at the club.
