Celtic fans have been warned not to accept Cluj scarves in fear of being attacked in Romania.
The Romanian Celtic Supporters’ Club have an extremely useful guide for those going to the game tonight. It has been shared around on social media over the last few days, and has some useful tips for both pleasure and safety.
One of those involves the swapping of scarves with the Romanian fans. If any Celtic fan does swap scarves, they’ve been warned not to wear them out at night. This is due to a “nasty” rivalry between CFR Cluj and Universitatea Cluj.

The Romanian CSC has recommended that the rivalry isn’t touched by Celtic fans “with a barge pole”.
Celtic fans are notoriously friendly away from home in Europe. Many look to swap their gear in exchange for some from the opposition support. However, if that’s the case tonight, they’ve been warned to keep them in their pockets or bags.

Several dangers to look out for
There are some other threats on the list that fans must take into consideration in Romania too.
They state that the Romanian gendarmerie has “notoriously itchy fingers” and are always looking to start a fight. Given Celtic fans are foreign and unknown to the area, that’s another potential danger for those in Romania tonight.

Another, meanwhile, is that of pickpockets and local girls coming up to supporters and asking for drinks with eyes on stealing your wallet. These are issues that many in the Celtic support will already take into account, you would hope. Some of these concerns are fairly prominent throughout Europe.
But this is a useful guide from the Romanian CSC. It helps Hoops who are in the country know more about the more serious dangers in everyday Romanian life.
Hopefully, everyone stays safe and come home with the win in the bag.
