Celtic fans will likely agree with some recent comments made by former Hoops right-back Mikael Lustig.

The eight-time title winner admitted that he wasn’t happy with the way Brendan Rodgers departed Celtic during last season.

Lusitg made the revelation in an interview with Sport/Foot, as cited by The Scottish Sun.

“I only regret that he left the way he did. When you say you are a fan of Celtic you do not quit the club in February” Lustig said.

“I do not approve of his choice, and he knows it.”

Lustig was already a hero of the Celtic fans before these comments. He will be even more of one once Hoops fans read when Lustig has to say.

The feelings undeniably still run high at Celtic about Rodgers’ exit to join Leicester City. Fans are no doubt still unhappy with the timing of Rodgers’ departure more than anything.

Fans would perhaps have accepted exit at end of season

If Rodgers had left at the end of the season it still would have been a blow to the Hoops. However, fans in the main would have accepted that. Rodgers could have left the club a hero.

But the nature of the departure means that Rodgers possibly isn’t the most popular man amongst the Celtic support.

Perhaps that will change in time. Rodgers will no doubt one day be welcomed back at Celtic Park, and be hailed as the great manager he is.

For now though, the majority of fans will be in agreement with Lustig’s comments.
