Harry Redknapp has delivered has verdict on Brendan Rodgers’ decision to quit Celtic to join Leicester City.

It is a verdict that Celtic fans won’t agree with.

“He did his job there, he did his job brilliantly at Celtic, he’s entitled to leave if another club comes in for him” he said, as reported by the Express.

“You want to manage in the Premier League, no disrespect to the Scottish Premiership but it doesn’t compare to the Premier League.”

Timing is the issue

Redknapp might feel that Rodgers was ‘entitled’ to move on from Celtic. But the timing is the issue which upset Celtic fans.

It did seem inevitable that Rodgers was going to move on. But if he quit at the end of the season it would have been far easier to digest. You can’t just up and leave a club in the middle of a title race.

Nothing to play for

As for Redknapp’s other claim about the standard of Scottish football, that’s not saying anything new. However, Rodgers elected to move to a side with nothing to play for this season in the Premier League.

If Rodgers had moved to a side in a battle for the Champions League, again fans would have been more accepting.

That wasn’t the case though. Leicester City had nothing to play for the remainder of the season.

There is often a disconnect between what fans and pundits believe about a manager. This is just the latest example of that.
