Celtic fans would love to see more of Luca Connell this season and were reminded of that fact after his media interview earlier this week.

Connell took part in a wide-ranging discussion with club outlet The Celtic View on Wednesday, opening up about his relationship with Shane Duffy, ability to train with the first-team and his future ambitions.

He has a great attitude and seems destined to get more regular senior football under his belt this season whether at Celtic Park or on loan.

On the subject of match readiness, the teenager told CelticFC.net: “I’m feeling strong and in good shape. I’ve been working with the fitness coaches and I’m ready for whatever’s next.

“I don’t feel like I’m out of place strength wise or fitness wise when I’m training with the first-team. I know it’s different when you go into games and are around players who have more games under their belt. I feel that, with not playing regularly, I’m in good shape so I’m ready to go whenever I’m given the nod.

“Patience is key. Every game is huge and every game for Celtic is a must win. Even if you look on the bench, the talent and ability of the players on the bench is so high. It’s always going to be hard to get in but I hope the chance comes. When that happens it’s up to me to take it.”

Those comments have gone down a storm with some supporters.

Those fans perhaps also a recall a pre-season cameo from he midfielder against Hibernian in July. He shone coming off the bench and looked every bit at home in the middle of Neil Lennon’s side.

Competition is obviously fierce in that area of the pitch but should the Republic of Ireland youth international be getting more action than he is currently?

A starting spot is unlikely but it would be great to see him on the bench more often and perhaps get minutes under his belt, taking advantage of the five-sub rule this season.

He might not quite be ready for stardom but he definitely has his backers and these fans took to Twitter this week to share their thoughts on the player, calling on Lennon to involve him more…
