Celtic final: Scott Brown fires back at ‘jealous’ ex-professionals; makes media claim

Ahead of making history with Celtic today, captain Scott Brown had a lot to say to BBC Scotland.

He was featured in the pre-match build-up on BBC One (13:42), speaking to reporter Chris McLaughlin about the criticism received by Celtic this season.

Pundits have had plenty to say about the ups and downs of Neil Lennon’s team over the past few months.

Whether former Celtic stars or professionals who played for other teams, Brown doesn’t sound that interested in hearing what they have to say.

The veteran midfielder said: “They can voice their own opinion. We’re big enough and ugly enough to take it. I don’t read any articles so it doesn’t bother me what people say about me, I’m a strong character.

“We have taken a battering in the media. A lot of ex-pros are out there, they’re a little bit jealous of what we’ve done in the last four or five years and they want to see that failure.

“But we’ve got to be bigger and stronger, bounce back and have that belief in ourselves.”

Celtic had a few scares during today’s match, but ultimately that belief shone through with a penalties victory over Hearts.

It wasn’t pretty, but Brown and his teammates once again proved they are born winners.

We are still the only team in Scotland to win a trophy since 2016. That’s remarkable.

There will likely be some criticism over the coming days of today’s performance.

However, the team should revel in this achievement and use it as inspiration to push on this season and get back to the levels they are capable of.

We need to take the good days as they come right now. We’ve had enough bad ones recently, with and away from Celtic.

I wonder how some of the media’s prominent pundits will react to Broony’s comments.
