Celtic have finally sprung into transfer action this afternoon after the superb double-signing of Joe Hart and James McCarthy.

For too long this summer, the Hoops have been stumbling along in the transfer window without much in the way of incomings. Despite the club needing a host of recruits, only three had been brought in before today.

However, Celtic have gone out and shown their intent this afternoon. A wealth of experience has just been added to the dressing room.

Hart will come in and instantly be the club’s number one shot-stopper. With Celtic having been troubled by a host of goalkeeping woes over the last 12 months, securing the Spurs man is a big boost.

As for McCarthy, he arrives as an instant replacement for Olivier Ntcham. Ntcham left the club over the weekend with the Hoops finding a superb upgrade in his place.

Joe Hart and James McCarthy give Celtic fans the perfect pick-me-up

After a miserable defeat to Hearts, this double-signing gives Celtic fans the pick-me-up they needed.

Not only do they solve two major squad shortages, they boost morale too. It’s not that Hart and McCarthy are both going to solve all of our issues together. But what it is in supporters’ eyes is a long-overdue statement of intent for the club.

Yes, it would’ve been ideal to get both in now. Of course it would’ve been better if they were here for the recent games against Midtjylland and Hearts. But they’re here now, and Celtic fans will need to give them their full support.

There’s still a tremendous level of work to do and that can’t be forgotten. But this is a massive day for or summer transfer window. Next up, the full-back issue needs urgently addressed.

However, the Celtic fans have been quick to tip their hats off to the club for pulling this one off. Here’s a look at how supporters have reacted to the news on Twitter:
