Celtic fixtures announced on Tuesday, Champions League draw on Wednesday, other key dates
Celtic fixtures for next season’s Scottish Premiership campaign are set to be announced on Tuesday.
Fixtures for the 2021/22 campaign will be published by the league body at 9 am on 15th June. [Daily Mail]
Huge key dates include Ange Postecoglou’s first league fixture as our new boss, as well as the first three derbies of the season against Rangers.
Celtic are due to travel to Ibrox in the first derby next term, having hosted Steven Gerrard’s team at Celtic Park last October. It means we’ll be playing the much-hyped new year derby game at Paradise.
The Premiership season is due to start on the weekend of 31st July. That’s less than three weeks after the conclusion of the current Euro 2020 tournament.
A winter break will also be re-introduced after last season’s Covid-19 impacted schedule. The Premiership will break up on Monday, January 3rd until Friday, January 21st 2022.
The transfer window officially opened on June 9th and will close for Scottish sides at 11 pm on August 31st.
More Celtic fixtures to be confirmed on Wednesday
That’s not the only big news for Celtic this week either. UEFA are set to draw the Champions League second qualifying round on Wednesday 16th June at 11 am. [UEFA]
As we’ve discussed previously, Celtic can draw one of three teams; Galatasaray, Rapid Vienna and FC Midtjylland. All three are of the calibre you’d usually expect in a Europa League group stage. The Bhoys certainly have their work cut out.
There’s no easy warm-up match for Postecoglou. There’s no Lincoln Red Imps on the horizon.
The intensity and importance of competitive matches will be huge right from the start.
The first left of this tie is due to be played on 20th or 21st July. The return leg will take place seven days later.
