Celtic flop Yousouf Mulumbu’s future has still to be decided as he continues to look for a new club.

There have been no reported offers from Scotland or England in the Congolese midfielder’s services. This comes after he was released by Celtic over the summer.

Mulumbu only managed to make three appearances after signing for the club back in August 2018. He was given his debut at old club Kilmarnock by former boss Brendan Rodgers. Despite a positive individual performance in that contest, Celtic ultimately lost out 2-1 at Rugby Park.

His second outing came in the 3-1 loss at RB Salzburg in the Europa League. Again, Mulumbu was one of the only standouts during the contest.

His final outing, however, was as a sub against RB Leipzig, again in the Europa League. This time, Mulumbu looked well short of match-fitness and nearly cost the Hoops victory back in November.

A much-needed loan move last January back to Kilmarnock saw Mulumbu make 12 further appearances. Unfortunately, he didn’t stand out enough to warrant another chance at Parkhead, and saw his two-year contract ripped up by Neil Lennon.

Mulumbu’s future could still be in Scotland – he has plenty to offer

It’s a bit of a surprise that there haven’t been more clubs in Scotland come up with an offer for Mulumbu. Even though he’s clearly not the quickest or the youngest, he has the attributes to be successful in Scotland.

Even during the second half of last season, he took home a man-of-the-match award against Rangers during his Killie loan. His aggression, physicality, and passing ability could see him be a success elsewhere.

The likes of Hearts, Aberdeen and Hibernian, however, haven’t made a move for him. There haven’t even been any suggestions of a move to the English leagues either. With the transfer window over, many club bosses will feel they have the squad they want.

There was speculation last month that a potential move to France’s Ligue 1 could’ve been on the cards (Foot RDC). Unfortunately, however, nothing seems to have come of it.

Of course, it’s not out of the equation that Mulumbu has been rejecting offers privately that the media haven’t caught hold of. But to the outside, it’s a shame that he’s yet to find a club he deems suitable.

Mulumbu still has so much to offer, and he proved that at Killie last season. Was he ever Celtic quality? Probably not, but he’s more than capable of playing Scottish Premiership football at the very least. For someone in Scotland, he could be a terrific acquisition.
