The Celtic support in Yokohama made plenty of noise despite defeat on Wednesday.

The Hoops went down 6-4 to Yokohama F. Marinos in an engrossing friendly match at the vast Nissan Stadium.

Daizen Maeda netted a first-half hat-trick on his return to the stadium while David Turnbull struck a sweet consolation with the final kick of the match.

It was a first loss of pre-season for Brendan Rodgers’ side but there were plenty of positives to take away, as well as lots to work on.

While our trip to Japan is an important step in the team’s preparation for the new season, it also brings the club closer to fans living at the other side of the world.

That was shown best in a tweet the club sent out around an hour after full-time. Shortly after 2pm they released a video alongside the caption: “Feeling the love in Japan.”

The footage featured a healthy Celtic support inside the stadium belting out the “We’re Glasgow Celtic chant.”

The song has become one of the most adored amongst the Celtic support, ever since its lengthy airing during the League Cup final victory over Rangers in February of this year.

Hearing it belted out at Hampden and Celtic Park is one thing. But the chant getting an airing 6,000 miles away in Yokohama just shows what a global club Celtic are.

The majority of the Hoops support in the video appear to be Japanese — and it’s great to see so many of them proudly wearing our colours and perhaps seeing the team in action for the very first time.

We don’t usually concede six goals, we promise.
