Ewan Henderson couldn’t keep the smile off of his face last night after scoring his first ever goal for Celtic. And rightly so.

Henderson has had his own ups and downs at Celtic since bursting into the first-team but was given a massive opportunity by manager Ange Postecoglou last night.

And he credits the standard of the manager’s training for getting him ready for such a big occasion. In fact, he sounds completely enamoured with everything Postecoglou is doing at the Bhoys right now.

Ewan Henderson is loving Celtic approach

Speaking to BT Sport, Henderson said: “I’m obviously really happy with the goal. I’ve been working hard behind the scenes so it’s great to get my first goal for Celtic. It was the best feeling in the world – I was so happy.

“With Mikey Johnston setting me up it was a great moment for the youth academy as we came through together. I’ve wanted to get my first goal since I came into the first team squad. I’m just delighted to get it. It’s the way we play football. We love attacking. Sometimes it opens you up defensively, but we are scoring so many goals.

“All the boys are loving the way we are playing. It’s been excellent since the manager first came in. All of the boys who played are working so hard in training. The standard is so high when you go in, everyone expects to step up and play well. Everyone there got pass marks. Your dream is to play for the Celtic first team.”

After loans away from the club and spells on the sidelines, it would be nice to see if Henderson now has the stuff required to feature more consistently for Celtic.

Ultimately that is Postecoglou’s decision but last night won’t have done the young attacking midfielder any harm at all.

That Celtic scored three goals against a good La Liga side with so many players missing is a testament to the work and processes being put in place at Lennoxtown. Players such as Henderson could well find it’s a massive benefit to them performing for the Hoops.
