Mick Kennedy: Jens Berthel Askou would be unbelievable for Celtic

“I think if it was me picking the next Celtic manager, I would give it to Jens.

“Just simply because he’s done so well this year, he knows the country, knows the standard, knows the league.

“He’s done unbelievable, and I think, probably, if you look at Celtic’s recent recruitment, that’s probably a model they need to go back down, in terms of getting somebody who can develop players.

“That’s what Ange was really successful at. I think he’d be a fantastic appointment.”

On putting Askou above Robbie Keane, Kennedy continued: “Yeah, aye. I think so. He invited me and Si [Ferry] in, we spent the day with him.

“We played the Motherwell B team one night. He watched the game and then he said to Andy Halliday the following day, and then we spoke and went in and spent the day with him.

“He’s got something about him. He’s got an aura about him. He’s unbelievable. He let us in [for] the full day, his attention to detail is unbelievable.

“I would probably say… in this country just now, he’s probably the only person who works at that level in terms of detail.

“John McGlynn’s very similar in terms of tactics and stuff like that, analytics, set-up, preparation… frightening, his level of detail.”

Candidates for the Celtic job along with Jens Berthel Askou

Of course, there are several Celtic candidates for the summer, including Roberto Martinez.

However, Martinez’s participation in the upcoming World Cup complicates his availability for what will be a crucial pre-season period.

Current Wales manager Craig Bellamy is another possibility, though so far, he has indicated a preference to stay in that role.

The aforementioned Keane remains a persistent link, bolstered by his pre-existing relationship with Dermot Desmond.

Martin O’Neill crucially cannot be dismissed as a contender unless his departure at the season’s end is officially confirmed.
