Vasilis Barkas has had a difficult start to life at Celtic.
Making a multi-million pound move from AEK Athens during the summer transfer window, he was heralded the club’s new number one, in replacement of iconic goalkeeper Fraser Forster.
However, after a shoulder injury, Scott Bain took his place in the team and has managed to string together multiple appearances, with Barkas reduced to a spell on the bench.
His start for Greece today was likely a welcome one for the player, especially after missing out on international matches in October.
Barkas was on the winning side in a 2-1 result against Cyprus, but unfortunately, he didn’t quite seem to impress some supporters watching on.
Social media reviews were harsh.
That won’t be pleasing to hear for Celtic fans desperate for the player to start showing the form to justify his fee and the faith put in him by the club.
Neil Lennon is unlikely to be listening to social media noise, of course, but he will likely be keen to find out how the player gets on during this international break with massive club matches ahead.
Bain isn’t exactly looking like the most solid choice between the Celtic sticks either, so the manager and goalkeeping coach Stevie Woods have a massive decision to make moving forward.

Is it time to stand by our summer signing and hope he finds the confidence needed?
I’m certainly leaning towards that conclusion. It’s far too early to write him off and we have to find out if he’s good enough to be a mainstay in the team.
In other news, Mohamed Elyounoussi is giving a helping had to Celtic’s Scotland stars this week.
