Celtic have a two-month revenge series on the cards

When Celtic released news of their post-split fixture dates, revenge will have been on the minds of many supporters.

Granted, much of that will have been aimed towards Steven Gerrard’s Rangers. In three Glasgow derbies this season, Celtic have only secured a ridiculous solitary point. It hasn’t been good enough and it’s been a key reason for the demise of 10-in-a-row.

That feeling of revenge has been heightened even further by the result on Sunday. Rangers somehow got out of Celtic Park with a point after being bossed for the second consecutive derby match. It was yet more frustration for Hoops supporters who were simply itching for some pride to be restored.

However, it’s not only Rangers who Celtic should be looking to inflict revenge upon in the next two months. In fact, taking a look at our fixture list – every one of the teams we face between now and the end of the league campaign have landed major blows on our title pursuit this season.

First off we have Livingston at Celtic Park on April 10th. David Martindale’s side effectively landed the killer blows on our title chase. A 0-0 draw in the previous meeting at Parkhead saw Celtic struck by the close contact rule that saw a host of first-team stars out. Days later we travelled to the Tony Macaroni Arena and struggled to yet another stalemate as we were held 2-2.

After that we take the journey to Pittodrie to face an Aberdeen side who have recently lost twice at Parkhead. Whilst those matches provided us some crumbs of comfort, they landed a gut-wrencher on us back in October.

As we looked to bounce back from derby defeat at Parkhead a week beforehand, Celtic lost a last-minute penalty to draw 3-3 in the Granite City. All of a sudden we were behind in the title-race by a bit of distance.

All sides have inflicted major damage on Celtic this season; revenge is on the cards

We know what’s happened in the derby games. Dominated two of them, failed to win all three of them. One point from nine. Absolutely disgraceful, and a win at Ibrox is a must if we’re to stop them going unbeaten this season.

St Johnstone at Parkhead on May 12th represents our penultimate game of the season. They’ve caused us plenty of bother this season. Our two wins at McDiarmid Park brought about plenty of scares. In September, we secured a big 2-0 win there courtesy of two late goals. Then we were forced to turn around our meeting in Perth last month.

But Saints did land a big punch on us back in December. With pressure growing on Neil Lennon, Chris Kane’s late effort looked to have won it for Callum Davidson’s side. A late Moi Elyounoussi effort saved face, but only to a point.

And to round things off we have Hibs at Easter Road. Yes, that 3-0 win at Parkhead back in September feels a long time ago now. Since then, Jack Ross’ side has taken four points from us both in Edinburgh and in Glasgow. The pain of Kevin Nisbet scoring a last-minute equaliser at Celtic Park in January hasn’t been forgotten.

Celtic owe all five of these sides a going over. It’s a glorious opportunity to remind everyone why we’ve been nine-in-a-row champions of Scotland. All of these teams have harmed us this season, and it’s time we take our revenge on them.

Let’s see how hungry this Hoops team is to give us a bit of pride back.
