Former Celtic hero Chris Sutton loves a wind-up or two, as well as a one-liner on social media from time to time.

It’s no different today after he received a barrage of responses wondering about his status following a Rangers win in the UEFA Europa League last night. That’s the game he was barred from of course, with BT Sport having to move the broadcast to an empty Celtic Park.

Sutton’s response to those queries? Well, he’s been in a meeting regarding the League Cup Final of course.

Sutton will likely be part of the Premier Sports line-up in December as Celtic take on Hibernian in the final of the competition. Hibs of course dumped Rangers out of the competition at the weekend.

Cup finals aren’t for everyone. And Rangers would know given their dreadful, dreadful record at Hampden and cup competitions in recent years.

Celtic, in contrast, have experienced unprecedented success over the last decade, culminating in a superb quadruple treble of trophies under managers Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon.

So while some rival supporters are apparently content with gloating today, perhaps they should remember that there’s a long way to go this season and there is only one Glasgow team in a national final.

As for Sutton? Well he’s clearly taking his Ibrox ban in his stride.
