Celtic hero Giorgos Giakoumakis wins Player of the Month award
Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis has been named as the Scottish Premiership player of the month for March.
The Greek international scored five goals during the four weeks, including a hat-trick in the 4-0 win over Ross County.
He’s been a massive part of the Bhoys’ excellent form recently and was given the award at Lennoxtown today.
Giakoumakis has now scored 12 goals in total for the Bhoys this season, despite only really playing regularly since the turn of the year.
Injuries ensured he had a slow start to life in Glasgow but he has quickly become crucial to manager Ange Postecoglou, especially in the wake of an injury to Kyogo Furuhashi.
We needed the Japanese striker’s goals to be replaced and Giakoumakis has stepped up.
Even when he’s not scoring he gives everything to the Celtic cause. That was never better demonstrated than in wins over Livingston and Rangers. Despite not hitting the back of the net in either match, his physical play and work rate were instrumental in helping Celtic out.
With Kyogo returning from injury, Postecoglou is now spoiled for choice in the attacking areas and it’ll be exciting to see where everyone fits into the starting eleven.
You wouldn’t bet against Giakoumakis retaining his place in the team for some of the big matches between now and the end of the season.
Congrats on your award Giorgos!
