Celtic winger Jota has been snapped outside Anfield ahead of tonight’s UEFA Champions League clash between Liverpool and parent club Benfica.

Jota is on loan at Parkhead for the season and is due to return to Portugal at the end of the campaign. Hoops supporters, however, have fallen in love with the winger, with many hoping Celtic can do a deal to bring him to Parkhead permanently this summer.

But for tonight, his focus appears to be on his parent club as he took the trip to most likely attend the quarter-final second-leg down south:

Jota has played a major role at Celtic Park this season, netting 10 goals and bagging 11 assists in all competitions [Transfermarkt].

His performances have also caught the eye of the Benfica supporters this season too. They’ve already shown their disapproval regarding a potential permanent sale of the player to Parkhead.

Benfica are currently 3-1 down to Liverpool ahead of tonight’s match, and a fairytale comeback certainly doesn’t look anywhere near likely.

Jota takes Anfield trip as Celtic await Rangers clash

It’s probably ideal that one of our players is taking himself out of the Glasgow bubble to watch his parent club play tonight. The build-up to these Celtic vs Rangers games must be absolutely exhausting for the players.

Jota will be hoping for a miracle comeback tonight as he likely reunites with familiar faces. Just so long as they aren’t convincing him to stay in Portugal next season then all is good!

In all seriousness, it’s a good way for him to kick back and take the focus off of Sunday. Things are certainly going to get more and more intense in the coming days as the big Hampden kick-off nears.

GLASGOW, SCOTLAND – JANUARY 29: Jota of Celtic celebrates at the final whistle during the Cinch Scottish Premiership match between Celtic FC and Dundee United at Celtic Park on January 29, 2022 in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

Jota will likely play a big role for Celtic this weekend too having started both of the Glasgow derby matches he’s been available for. His contribution has been invaluable against Rangers this year despite having yet to score in the fixture.

Hopefully he has an enjoyable night ahead of a busy few days for the Celtic players. But please do travel back up the road safely please!
